General Information

Native American individuals belong to one of five major maternal lineages (A, B, C, D or X). A primary Global mtDNA (mitochondrial DNA, passed down from mother to child) Test is performed to establish sequences belonging to one of the 5 Native American lineages. Subsequently submitted samples are then compared against an extensive Native American mtDNA database to identify geographic and tribal matches within the Americas.

A tribal match does not prove that you belong to that tribe; it simply suggests you share a distant common ancestor with individuals in the matched tribe and possibly non-sampled neighboring tribes.
